What makes the Alfa Romeo 156 special

Alfa Romeo 156 tuning: the GTA and the diesels

The 156 GTA has a 3.2 V6 with 250 hp and 300 Nm, and like every petrol 156 it is naturally aspirated. The GTA is a rare version, built by hand on a separate line. Alfa Romeo 156 tuning with a tuning box therefore looks different for the GTA and for the diesels.

The 3.2 V6, the 2.5 V6 and the Twin Spark 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 work with the GAN GA+. The JTD diesels, which arrived in 1997, are matched with the GAN GT. They are the 1.9 JTD with 105, 110 and 116 hp, the M-Jet with 140 and 150 hp and the 2.4 JTD with 136 to 175 hp.

The 3.2 V6 with 250 hp and 300 Nm reaches 280 hp and 336 Nm with the GAN GA+ in the catalogue. A V6 without a turbocharger works with the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power. The GAN module is not a remap: it leaves the factory software untouched. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

GTA chiptuning or the 2.4 JTD: where does the Alfa 156 gain more?

The 3.2 V6 GTA gains 30 hp in the catalogue, while the 2.4 JTD M-Jet with 175 hp gains 50 hp with the GAN GT.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
