Kia computer tuning: tuning box or ECU remap?
An ECU remap rewrites the factory software in the engine control unit (ECU); this is what computer tuning usually refers to. The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
How much more power do the Sportage and Ceed diesels get?
The Sportage IV 2.0 CRDi with 185 hp is rated at 400 Nm and reaches 237 hp and 505 Nm with the GAN GT. The 136 hp 1.6 CRDi of the Sportage IV gains 40 hp and 100 Nm, and the Sportage V with 115 hp gains 33 hp and 81 Nm. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Kia Carens chiptuning: which versions are covered?
The Carens 1.7 CRDi comes in three versions: the 115 hp engine (116 hp in the catalogue) gains 35 hp and 77 Nm, the 136 hp engine 40 hp and 90 Nm, and the 141 hp engine 41 hp and 90 Nm. Every one of these three versions takes the GAN GT.
What do the turbo petrol Kias gain?
The Ceed GT with 204 hp gains 49 hp and 116 Nm in the second generation and 43 hp and 56 Nm in the third. The Stinger 2.0 T-GDI with 247 hp gains 42 hp and 60 Nm, and the 3.3 T-GDI with 370 hp gains 63 hp and 87 Nm.
Does the GAN module affect my Kia warranty?
No. The module does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. We also give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Tuning box or ECU remap: which should I choose?
An ECU remap permanently changes the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.
Kia chip tuning: what to know about the engines
Kia tuning: the same engines as Hyundai
Kia and Hyundai share their engines, which makes Kia tuning with a tuning box easier to follow. Since 2018 Smartstream has been the common name for the new engines of both brands, with a letter for the fuel and a number for the displacement. The 2.2 CRDi with 197 hp in the Sorento II and 200 hp in the Sorento III belongs to the family that Hyundai fits to the Santa Fe.
The Sorento IV has the 2.2 CRDi with 202 hp, a 1.6 T-GDI hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The first Sorento had the 2.5 CRDi with 140 hp and, after the update of September 2006, with 170 hp. The Sorento II arrived in 2009, and its 2.4 GDI with 192 hp came with the update of 2012.
Sportage, Ceed, Carens and Stinger
For Kia Sportage tuning the diesels are the 1.7 CRDi with 115 or 141 hp and the 2.0 CRDi with 136 or 185 hp. From 2018 the 1.6 CRDi with 115 to 136 hp joined them. The 1.6 CRDi with 136 hp also comes as a 48V mild hybrid called EcoDynamics+, and the turbodiesel underneath stays the same. The Sportage V of 2021 has the 1.6 T-GDI with 150 or 180 hp and hybrids with 230 and 265 hp. The Ceed was written cee'd until 2018.
It has the 1.0 T-GDI, the 1.4 T-GDI and, in the GT, the 1.6 T-GDI with 204 hp. The Carens compact MPV has the 1.7 CRDi with 115, 136 and 141 hp. The Carens UN ran from 2006 to 2013, and the Carens RP followed until 2019. The Stinger comes with the 2.0 T-GDI of 245 hp (listed at 247 hp in the catalogue) and the 3.3 T-GDI V6 of 370 hp. Its 2.2 CRDi of 200 hp was sold until 2020.

The engine name tells you the GAN module
Two modules cover the Kia range: the GAN GT for CRDi diesels and T-GDI petrol engines, rated at up to 30% more power, and the GAN GA+ for naturally aspirated MPI and GDI engines, rated at up to 12%. For Kia engine tuning the letters in the name tell you the module: a GDI without the T has no turbo, and an MPI is naturally aspirated. The Sorento II with the 2.4 GDI of 192 hp therefore works with the GAN GA+.
The Sportage 1.6 CRDi mild hybrid gets the GAN GT, because the mild hybrid system keeps the turbodiesel. For Kia chip tuning it is the engine name and the output that count, not the badge on the boot.
Which Kia models are in the catalogue
The catalogue lists 37 models from Kia. The most engines are listed for the Sorento (36), Cee'd (34) and Sportage (34). The biggest gain among the models is on the Borrego: up to +67 hp.
