Is the 3.0 TFSI turbocharged, and does the GAN module fit both kinds of engine?
In the A6 C6, A6 C7 and S4 B8 the 3.0 TFSI is supercharged, while the 2.0 TFSI and 1.8 TFSI are turbocharged. In the GAN catalogue the 3.0 TFSI works with the GAN GT; as always, what counts is your own engine.
Is Audi chiptuning different for pump-injector and common rail TDI engines?
They differ in hardware: pump-injector engines are the PD generation (EA188), common rail engines are the EA189 and EA288. In both cases you find your engine in the catalogue by its exact hp figure, for example the A6 C7 2.0 TDI with 177 hp.
What do 35, 40 and 45 TFSI mean for tuning?
They are power classes, not displacements, so a 40 TFSI says nothing about litres. Audi introduced the scheme on 23 August 2017 with the A8, and the other models followed by summer 2018.
Tuning box or ECU remap for an Audi: what stays untouched?
Unlike an ECU remap, which rewrites the factory software, a tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. With the GAN module the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched, and the engine's factory protections remain active. Once the module is removed, no traces remain: nothing is written to the ECU. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

No. The module does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. We also give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Tuning box or ECU remap: which should I choose?
An ECU remap permanently changes the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.

What TFSI, TDI and FSI really mean
Audi tuning starts with the badge on the engine, because the letters mean less than they seem, and a tuning box is chosen by the exact engine rather than by the name. For Audi chip tuning the badge matters more than the displacement, since one name can cover several power outputs. FSI means petrol direct injection, and TFSI adds forced induction on top of it. Forced induction does not always mean a turbocharger: the 3.0 TFSI in the A6 C6, A6 C7 and S4 B8 is supercharged, while the 2.0 TFSI and 1.8 TFSI use a turbo.
TDI is a turbodiesel with direct injection, and it has been through several generations. TDI engines moved from distributor-pump injection (VE) to pump-injector units (PD, EA188) and then to common rail (EA189 and EA288). The V6 diesels are the EA896 and EA897. The extra names describe the car rather than the engine: quattro is all-wheel drive, ultra marks the economical versions and g-tron means CNG.
Audi TDI tuning and the diesel majority
In Germany, diesel made up 70.4% of A4, S4 and RS4 registrations in 2008 and 87.6% in 2014. For the A6 and S6 the share was 90.9% in 2010. Typical A4 engines were the 2.0 TDI with 120 to 190 hp and the 3.0 TDI with 204 to 245 hp.
The A6 C7 range was built around the 3.0 TDI with 204 and 245 hp and the 2.0 TDI with 177 hp. After the 2014 facelift came the 2.0 TDI ultra with 190 hp and the 3.0 TDI with 218 and 272 hp. Most turbodiesels and turbo petrol engines in the catalogue work with the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power. Naturally aspirated petrol engines such as the 2.8 FSI and 4.2 FSI are matched with the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12%; in every case the module is the one the catalogue gives for your engine.

S and RS models keep their own names
Since 23 August 2017 Audi has coded power as a number, but the S and RS models kept their names. The S3 8V made 300 to 310 hp from 2013 to 2020, and the S4 B8 has a supercharged 3.0 TFSI with 333 hp (2008–2015). The RS6 C7 has a 4.0 TFSI with 560 hp, and the performance version was rated at 605 hp. Older S models used a V8: the S4 B6 and B7 had a 4.2 V8 with 344 hp.
Body codes and model years
Audi calls its body codes Typ: B5 is 8D, B6 and B7 are 8E, B8 is 8K and B9 is 8W. On the A6 the codes are C5 (4B), C6 (4F), C7 (4G) and C8 (4A). The A4 B8 ran from 2007 to 2015 with a facelift in 2011, and the B9 followed from 2015 to 2024. The A6 C7 was built from late 2010 to 2018, and the C8 from 2018 to 2025.
