Alfa Romeo 159 tuning: which 1.9 JTDM is yours

Which 1.9 JTDM is in your Alfa Romeo 159? The 120 hp version has eight valves and 280 Nm; the 150 hp version has sixteen valves and 320 Nm. For Alfa Romeo 159 tuning with a tuning box they are two separate engines, each with its own GAN GT figures. Of the diesels, only the 2.4 JTDM with 210 hp came with Q4 all-wheel drive.

The 2.4 JTDM with 200 and 210 hp, the 2.0 JTDM with 136 and 170 hp and the 1.75 TBi with 200 hp work with the GAN GT too. The petrol 1.8, 2.2 and 3.2 V6 engines get the GAN GA+. Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon tuning works with the same engines, since the Sportwagon is simply the estate body.

What does the GAN GT add to the 159 1.9 JTDM with 120 hp and with 150 hp?

With the GAN GT, the 16-valve 1.9 JTDM rises from 150 hp and 320 Nm to 194 hp and 413 Nm. The 120 hp engine gains 36 hp. On a turbodiesel like this, the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

The 2.4 JTDM with 210 hp (209 in the catalogue) gains 58 hp with the GAN GT.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
