What makes the Alfa Romeo Stelvio special
Alfa Romeo Stelvio tuning: the 2.0 Turbo and the 2.2 diesel
Orders for the Alfa Romeo Stelvio opened in Germany on 18 January 2017, starting with the First Edition and its 280 hp 2.0 Turbo. There has been just one generation since then, the Type 949, built on the Giorgio platform it shares with the Giulia. Facelifts came for the 2020 and 2023 model years, first bringing a new interior and driver assistance systems, then matrix LED headlights. The engine range splits in two, and both halves are turbocharged: the 2.0 Turbo petrol and the 2.2 Turbo Diesel.
That is why Alfa Romeo Stelvio tuning with a tuning box always means the GAN GT: it covers all six engines in the catalogue. About two thirds of the German registrations are petrol and one third diesel, and almost all of them have all-wheel drive. The main versions are the 2.0 Turbo with 280 hp and Q4 all-wheel drive, and the diesel with 190 or 209 hp. The 280 hp 2.0 Turbo makes 400 Nm, and the 209 hp diesel was sold from February 2017.
One diesel in five outputs
The 2.2 diesel is a single Family B engine, sold with 150, 160, 180, 190 and 209 hp. It is a common-rail unit with an eight-speed automatic, like the petrol. So check both the year and the output of your car before you look up the figures. The 200 hp 2.0 Turbo does not appear separately in the Stelvio catalogue; it is found under the Alfa Romeo Giulia as the 2.0T 200 hp.

Stelvio 2.2 D 150, 160, 180, 190 or 209 hp: which version is mine?
Output and date together settle it: the 150 and 180 hp versions ended in August 2018, the 160 hp ran until March 2020, and the 190 hp arrived in September 2018. The 209 hp version was sold from February 2017.
Stelvio chiptuning: how much more power does the 2.0 Turbo 280 hp get?
With the GAN GT, the 280 hp and 400 Nm petrol reaches 328 hp and 468 Nm. The petrol and the diesels both work with the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Is the Stelvio Quadrifoglio in the GAN catalogue?
The 2.9 V6 of the Quadrifoglio, with 510 hp and 520 hp from 2023, is not in the catalogue.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
