What makes the Audi A3 8P special
Audi A3 8P tuning: the diesel depends on the year
In April 2008 the 2.0 TDI in the Audi A3 8P switched from pump injectors to Common Rail, so Audi A3 tuning starts with the date, which decides the tuning box. Before that it had pump injectors with 140 hp (BKD, BMM) or 170 hp (BMN), and afterwards Common Rail with 140 hp (CBAB) or 170 hp (CBBB). The 1.9 TDI with 105 hp and pump injectors ended in October 2009, and the Common Rail 1.6 TDI with 90 hp and 105 hp followed.
GAN figures for the 8P
The Common Rail 2.0 TDI with 140 hp goes to 160 hp with the GAN GT, and the 170 hp version to 204 hp. The pump-injector 2.0 TDI PD with 140 hp and the 1.9 TDI with 105 hp work with the GAN GA+ and reach 157 hp and 118 hp. Audi A3 chip tuning of the 1.6 TDI with 105 hp gives 136 hp.
The petrol 2.0 TFSI with 200 hp reaches 254 hp, the 1.8 TFSI with 160 hp reaches 206 hp and the 1.4 TFSI with 125 hp reaches 149 hp. The naturally aspirated 1.6, 2.0 FSI and 3.2 VR6 work with the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power. These are the stated gains for these engine types, not a dyno reading of your car.

A3 8P 2.0 TDI tuning: BKD or CBAB, which figures apply?
The BKD of 2003 to 2006 and the BMM are pump-injector engines and come under the 140 hp 2.0 TDI PD, while the CBAB from April 2008 comes under the 140 hp Common Rail 2.0 TDI.
What should I check on an A3 8P before adding power?
On the chain-driven 1.8 TFSI (EA888), high oil consumption can occur, but in the A3 8P only in isolated cases. On early cars with the 1.6 petrol engine of 102 hp, the thermostat and the water pump can fail.
Audi A3 chiptuning: tuning box or ECU remap?
A remap means the ECU is rewritten, whereas a GAN tuning box leaves it alone: the module works on the sensor signals and plugs into the existing connectors. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
