What makes the Audi RS4 special
Audi RS4 tuning: one naturally aspirated V8
The RS4 B7 has a naturally aspirated 4.2 FSI V8; there was no turbocharged version. The B7 had 420 hp; the B8 of 2012 to 2015 has 450 hp from a further-developed version of the same 4.2 FSI, the engine of the RS5 since 2010. Chip tuning with a GAN GA+ tuning box takes the 420 hp engine to 454 hp and the B8 engine, listed at 444 hp, to 480 hp, for up to 12% more power.
These are the stated gains for these engine types, not a dyno reading of your car. The RS4 B7 does not share its engine with the S4 B7: the S4 has a 4.2 V8 with 344 hp and port injection, the RS4 a high-revving 4.2 FSI. The 2.7 biturbo of the RS4 B5 and the 2.9 TFSI of the RS4 B9 are not in the catalogue.

On both engines, the B7 with 420 hp and the B8 listed at 444 hp, torque rises from 430 Nm to 464 Nm with the GAN GA+. On the B7, the stock peak of 430 Nm comes at 5,500 rpm.
Audi RS4 Stage 1: tuning box or ECU remap?
A remap rewrites the software in the ECU. The GAN module is different: it sits between the sensors and the ECU, and the factory software stays as it was. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
