What makes the Daihatsu Terios special
Daihatsu Terios tuning: the 1.3 or the 1.5
Two generations of Terios reached Europe, and for a tuning box that means two engines: a 1.3 in the first and a 1.5 in the second. The 1.3 K3-VE is rated at 86 hp, the 1.5 3SZ-VE at 104 hp and 140 Nm. In Europe the second generation came with the 1.5 alone; it has permanent four-wheel drive, with front-wheel-drive versions added later.
Those two figures, 86 hp and 104 hp, are the starting points in the catalogue for Terios tuning. Both engines are naturally aspirated, so both work with the GAN GA+.
Terios I and Terios II
The first generation, the J100, reached Europe in 1997 as a compact off-roader with Charade-derived engines. It started with the 1.3 HC-EJ, offered with four-wheel drive from 1997 to 1999. From 2000 it switched to the 1.3 K3-VE with 86 hp, in four-wheel or two-wheel drive, with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. The K3-VE has 1,297 cc and a DOHC cylinder head. The Terios Kid with a 0.66 turbo engine and the 140 hp K3-VET were sold only in Japan; the catalogue lists the Kid engine as the 0.7i with 64 hp and 107 Nm, and the K3-VET is not in it. The facelift of 2000 brought a chrome grille.
The second generation, the J200, was sold in Europe until 2013 or 2014, and in Germany until early 2013. Its 3SZ-VE displaces 1,495 cc and has variable valve timing. The gearbox choice stayed the same: a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Published figures for the 1.5 vary between 102 hp and 105 hp; the catalogue gives 104 hp. Outside Europe the second-generation car is sold as the Toyota Rush.

Which figures apply to the first-generation 1.3?
The 1.3 K3-VE from 2000 is the 86 hp version. Go by the 1.3 for a Terios I and by the 1.5 for a Terios II.
Does a tuning box change anything in the four-wheel drive?
The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so it works on the engine side. The module does not reprogram the gearbox.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
