About the generation

What makes the Honda Stepwgn special

Stepwgn tuning: a Honda for another market

The Honda Stepwgn is an eight-seat people carrier that Honda did not sell in Europe; since 2015 its exports have gone only to countries in Asia. Honda Stepwgn tuning with a tuning box therefore follows the engines of its home market, and the generations are coded RF (1996–2005), RG (2005–2009), RK (2009–2015) and RP (from 2015). The RP generation has two stages, the RP1 to RP5 until 2022 and the RP6 to RP8 since then.

In Europe the Honda people carriers were the Stream and the FR-V. In 2017 a Spanish magazine wrote that Europe lacked a people carrier like the Stepwgn. The 1.5 turbo of the RP, with 150 hp and 203 Nm, works with the GAN GT and gains 43 hp and 61 Nm.

The naturally aspirated 2.0

The naturally aspirated 2.0 i-VTEC comes in three versions, 150, 155 and 160 hp, all with the GAN GA+: the gains are 18 hp, 19 hp and 19 hp, with 23 Nm in each case. Spada is a trim line of the model, and the Spada 2.0 with 150 hp has the same figures as the plain 2.0 with 150 hp. The naturally aspirated engines of the model are the B20B, K20A, K24A and R20A.

Buying a used import

For daily driving, the Stepwgn 2.0 i-VTEC offers 150 to 155 hp. The RK generation of 2009 to 2015 used only the 2.0 with 150 hp, so an RK import needs the 150 hp version.

For Stepwgn 1.5 turbo tuning, 150 hp and 203 Nm become 193 hp and 264 Nm with the GAN GT. The GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power on a turbo petrol engine like this; these are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

Is Honda Stepwagon the same model as the Stepwgn?

Yes, Stepwgn, Step WGN and StepWagon are spellings of one model, and the same figures apply to the Honda Stepwagon.

What does the GAN GA+ give the 2.0 i-VTEC?

The GAN GA+ gives up to 12% more power, which is why a naturally aspirated Stepwgn gains less than the turbo. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
