About the generation

What makes the Hyundai Getz special

Hyundai Getz tuning: before and after September 2005

In September 2005 the facelift split the Hyundai Getz into two cars with different engines. Before it the range was the 1.1 with 62 hp, the 1.3 with 82 or 85 hp and the 1.6 with 105 hp. The diesel was the three-cylinder 1.5 CRDi with 82 hp. After it came the 1.1 with 67 hp, the 1.4 with 97 hp in place of the 1.3, and the 1.6 with 106 hp.

The diesel became a four-cylinder 1.5 CRDi with 88 hp and 215 Nm. So Hyundai Getz tuning starts with the build date: a tuning box has to match the engine in your car. Hyundai sold the Getz in Europe from September 2002 to June 2009 as a three-door and a five-door hatchback.

Petrol engines and diesels

The petrol Getz engines, from 1.1 to 1.6 litres, are naturally aspirated and make 62 to 106 hp. The CRDi diesels, with 82 to 88 hp, get the higher rating: the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power. The petrol engines use the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12%.

In the catalogue the petrol engines work with the GAN GA and GAN GA+, and the CRDi engines with the GAN GT and GAN GTL. The 1.6 changed little at the facelift, from 105 hp to 106 hp, and the catalogue lists it with 105 hp and 146 Nm. With the GAN GA+ the 1.4 that replaced the 1.3 goes from 97 hp and 125 Nm to 109 hp and 140 Nm.

Which Getz 1.5 CRDi do I have, 82 hp or 88 hp?

The 82 hp engine has three cylinders and was fitted from August 2003 until the 2005 facelift. The 88 hp engine has four cylinders and 215 Nm, and it came after the facelift.

How much more power does the Getz 1.5 CRDi get?

The 88 hp engine, with 215 Nm from the factory, moves up to 115 hp and 280 Nm with the GAN GT fitted. On the CRDi engines the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power. On the petrol engines the GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12%. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

How much power does the GAN GA+ add to the Getz 1.1?

With the GAN GA+ the later 1.1 goes from 67 hp and 99 Nm to 75 hp and 111 Nm.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
