What makes the Kia Carnival special
Kia Carnival tuning: the 2.9 CRDi first
In Germany the Carnival sold almost entirely as a diesel, so a tuning box for it usually means the 2.9 CRDi. Kia Carnival tuning then hinges on the build date. From the 2002 facelift the 2.9 CRDi made 144 hp and 310 Nm, replacing the 2.9 TD with 126 hp.
With the second generation, from the summer of 2006, the same engine size gave 185 hp and 343 Nm. The catalogue lists each 2.9 CRDi twice, as sensor1 and sensor2 versions with identical figures: they differ by sensor type, not by calibration. With the GAN GT, the 144 hp engine with 310 Nm reaches 186 hp and 397 Nm.
Petrol V6 engines and the last diesel
The petrol side was the 2.5 V6, with 165 hp before the 2002 facelift and 150 hp after it. The second generation added a 2.7 V6 with 189 hp. The V6 engines work with the GAN GA and GAN GA+, the diesels with the GAN GT and GAN GTL. For the 2.7 V6 the catalogue gives 189 hp and 247 Nm.
After the 2010 facelift only the 2.2 CRDi with 421 Nm remained, sold in the UK, Switzerland and Austria, as Germany stopped sales in spring 2010. A 150 hp version joined it in 2011. Fitted with the GAN GA+, the 150 hp 2.5 V6 with 224 Nm comes out at 168 hp and 251 Nm.

How do I tell the 144 hp Carnival 2.9 CRDi from the 185 hp one?
By the build date: the 144 hp engine was fitted from 2002 to mid-2006, and the 185 hp engine from mid-2006.
How much more power does a Carnival 2.9 CRDi with 185 hp get?
The 185 hp engine, with 343 Nm, goes to 237 hp and 437 Nm with the GAN GT. The diesels use the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power, and the petrol V6 engines the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12%. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Is the Kia Sedona the same van as the Carnival?
Yes. Kia Sedona is the name used in the UK and Ireland for the same van, and in Germany the 2006 generation is called the Carnival III. UK cars of that generation also had a 170 hp version of the 2.9 CRDi. The 170 hp 2.9 CRDi is not in the catalogue.
Is the current Carnival sold in Europe?
Kia does not list the third generation of 2014–2021 or the fourth generation from 2020 in Germany at present. The European Carnival is the van built from 1999 to 2011.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
