What makes the Kia K5 special
Kia K5 tuning: the badge is not an engine
The K5 is not a European Kia: K5 is the name of the Optima V (DL3) from 2019 for markets outside Europe. In 2019 the chief operating officer of Kia Europe said that Kia had no plans for the K5 in Europe and pointed to the falling market for saloons. The European Optima ended in 2019 to 2020, and the K5 did not follow it. The engines listed under K5 therefore come from different generations, so Kia K5 tuning with a tuning box is a matter of the engine, not the badge.
The one European engine
The 2.0 T-GDI with 245 hp and 353 Nm matches the European Optima IV (JF), built from October 2016 to August 2018. It is a turbo engine, and with the GAN GT it gains 42 hp and 60 Nm.
The other engines
The remaining engines come from the non-European K5 range: the 2.0 MPI with 150 or 160 hp and the 2.5 GDI with 194 hp and 246 Nm. They work with the GAN GA+: the 2.0 MPI gains 18 or 19 hp, and the 2.5 GDI gains 23 hp and 30 Nm. The 172 hp version with 201 Nm is the Nu 2.0 MPI of the Optima III (TF) and reaches 193 hp and 225 Nm with the GAN GA+.

What does a tuning box add to the K5 2.5 GDI with 194 hp?
With the GAN GA+ it gains 23 hp and 30 Nm. On these engines the GAN GA+ adds up to 12% more power.
How do you tune a Kia K5 without an ECU remap?

Is the Kia K5 the same car as the Optima?
K5 is the global name of the saloon, while earlier generations were sold in Europe mostly as the Kia Optima. The K5 of 2019 was not offered in Europe, so what you find under K5 follows the engine and not the name. A trim name from another market does not change the figures either, because a trim is equipment and not an engine.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
