What makes the Kia Niro special
Kia Niro tuning: the petrol engine or the whole hybrid?
Kia Niro tuning raises two questions: can the hybrid be tuned at all, and which power figure does a tuning box change? There is no Niro without an electric motor, petrol or diesel, and the system output is 141 hp and 265 Nm. The catalogue figures of 105 hp and 147 Nm cover the 1.6 GDi petrol engine alone, one part of that system.
Both generations, the first of 2016 to 2022 and the current one from 2022, pair this 1.6 GDi with an electric motor. The electric motor adds 44 hp, and the first generation sends the drive through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Does chip tuning work on the Niro Hybrid, and which figure does it change?
The catalogue covers the petrol engine only: 105 hp and 147 Nm become 118 hp and 165 Nm with the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car. What that means for the 141 hp system output is not stated.
Are the figures the same for the first and second Niro?
Yes. Both generations use the 1.6 GDi petrol engine with 105 hp, and those are the figures for the hybrid. The second 1.6H version in the catalogue, with 139 hp and 170 Nm, mixes the system output with the electric motor's torque; it is not an engine figure.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
