What makes the Maserati GranTurismo special
Maserati GranTurismo tuning: what a naturally aspirated V8 can give
Maserati GranTurismo tuning starts with one question: what can a tuning box, or an ECU tune, add to a naturally aspirated V8? The first-generation GranTurismo has a single engine type, a naturally aspirated V8 shared with Ferrari. Output is what separates the versions: 405, 440, 444, 450, 454 or 460 hp.
The first generation, the Tipo M145, was built in Modena from 2007 to November 2019. The facelift for the 2018 model year brought a hexagonal grille. The open-top GranCabrio, built from 2010 to 2019, uses the same engines and therefore the same figures.
The versions
The GranTurismo of 2007 to 2017 has the 4.2 V8 with 405 hp and 460 Nm. The GranTurismo S of 2008 to 2012 has the 4.7 V8 from the Alfa Romeo 8C, with 440 hp and 490 Nm. The Sport, offered from March 2012, replaced the S and has 460 hp and 520 Nm. The MC Stradale began with 450 hp and 510 Nm and later moved to 460 hp and 520 Nm. It was shown in 2011 and relaunched in Geneva in 2013 with a robotised six-speed gearbox.
At 460 hp and 520 Nm the MC Stradale and the Sport differ in their gearbox, not in engine output. The gearbox is either the ZF automatic or the robotised unit fitted to the S and the MC Stradale. The second generation, the M189 from 2023, has the Nettuno 3.0 V6 twin-turbo with 490 hp, or 550 hp in the Trofeo. The Nettuno V6 is not in the catalogue.

With the GAN GA+ the 460 hp and 520 Nm Sport reaches 497 hp and 562 Nm. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Maserati GranTurismo tuning kit or ECU tune: what does the V8 gain?
Unlike an ECU remap, which rewrites the factory software, the GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. A GAN module is a tuning box that plugs into the existing connectors, not a kit of engine parts. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power on naturally aspirated engines such as this V8. The module does not reprogram the gearbox.
Maserati GranCabrio tuning: is it covered the same way as the GranTurismo?
Yes, the GranCabrio shares the engines, so again the output decides.
MC Stradale 450 hp or 460 hp: which version is mine?
The 450 hp and 510 Nm car is the early MC Stradale of 2011 and 2012, and both versions are in the catalogue.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
