Mazda BT-50 tuning: what changes
The tuning module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Mazda BT-50 special
Mazda BT50 tuning: the 2.5 MZR-CD diesel
With a full load, a BT-50 relies on the 330 Nm that its 2.5 MZR-CD makes at 1,800 rpm. The BT-50 sold in Europe has the 2.5 MZR-CD, a common-rail diesel with 143 hp. The same engine sits in the Ford Ranger of 2006 to 2009; the BT-50 is its technical twin, built in Thailand.
Mazda BT 50 tuning with a tuning box therefore comes down to the GAN GT for the 2.5 MZR-CD with 143 hp. The BT-50 came as an extended cab or a double cab, and the facelift of autumn 2008 left the engine unchanged.
Mazda BT-50 chip tuning: questions
BT-50 ECU remapping or a tuning box: what stays untouched?
ECU remapping rewrites the factory software in the engine control unit; a tuning box is a different method. The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
What does the GAN GT add to the BT-50 2.5 MZR-CD with 143 hp?
The GAN GT lifts this diesel from 143 hp and 330 Nm to 185 hp and 421 Nm, a gain of 42 hp. As a turbo engine it suits the module, which is rated at up to 30% more power. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
