What makes the MG ZS special
MG ZS tuning: from November 2017 to 2025
The MG ZS reached Britain in November 2017 with the 1.5 VTi-Tech, 106 hp and 141 Nm, and the 1.0 T-GDI, 111 hp and 160 Nm. British trims were Explore, Excite and Exclusive, and the facelift followed in July 2020. The ZS was announced at the Guangzhou show in 2016, and it reached Chinese buyers in March 2017. MG ZS tuning depends on the year as much as on the engine, because the 1.5 also exists in a Chinese calibration, and the tuning box is matched to both. The 1.5 VTi-Tech drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual, and it is naturally aspirated.
The 106 hp version in the catalogue belongs to this engine. The 120 hp 1.5 is the Chinese calibration of the same engine, and in China the 1.0 turbo has 125 hp and 175 Nm. The 1.3 Turbo of the ZST, with 156 to 163 hp and 230 Nm, was sold in Australia and other markets outside Europe, and it is not in the catalogue. The Chinese facelift came in September 2019. The 1.0 T-GDI is a three-cylinder turbo developed by SAIC with GM and sold with a six-speed manual or automatic.
The second generation: ZS II
The ZS II reached Europe in autumn 2024, and it shares its engines with the MG3. In Germany the ZS II has had a naturally aspirated 1.5 petrol with 116 hp and 150 Nm since early 2025, and the catalogue covers it as the 116 hp version. The Hybrid+ is not in the catalogue. Every ZS engine in the catalogue works with the GAN GA+.

With the GAN GA+ the 116 hp ZS II reaches 130 hp and 168 Nm, and the catalogue also covers the 106 hp engine of the first generation with the same module. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power; these are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Which figures apply to the ZS II with the 116 hp petrol engine?
The 1.5 with 116 hp sold since early 2025 uses the 116 hp figures with the GAN GA+, not those of the 106 hp first-generation engine.
Is the ZS 1.0 T-GDI in the catalogue?
No. The 1.0 T-GDI with 111 hp and 160 Nm is not in the catalogue.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
