What makes the Mitsubishi ASX special
Mitsubishi ASX tuning: the 1.8 DI-D diesel
The ASX 1.8 DI-D+ uses the 4N13, the first diesel engine with MIVEC variable valve timing. The same 1.8 diesel is also used in the Citroën C4 Aircross and the Peugeot 4008. The 1.8 DI-D came with front-wheel drive first and four-wheel drive later.
Mitsubishi ASX tuning with a tuning box on this engine means the GAN GT, and the catalogue figures start from the 150 hp version and its 300 Nm. A short-lived version with 116 hp and the same 300 Nm was listed in Germany only from January to October 2011, and it also works with the GAN GT.
Which ASX engines are covered
The first-generation ASX reached Europe in June 2010 and was sold until the end of 2021. In Germany the petrol 1.6 with 117 hp and 154 Nm lasted until August 2019; from September 2019 the range had a single engine, the 2.0 with 150 hp. ClearTec on the 1.6 means a stop-start, economy-minded set-up, not a different engine. Both petrol engines work with the GAN GA+, and the 2.0 is naturally aspirated.
The diesels use the GAN GT: the 1.8 DI-D until mid-2015, and the 2.2 DI-D with 150 hp and 360 Nm from October 2013. The 2.2 came only with four-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic. The 1.6 DI-D with 114 hp, sold from 2015 to 2017, is not listed separately for the ASX: the same engine appears as the 1.6 HDi FAP 115 of the Peugeot 4008. The ASX sold since 2023 is a rebadged Renault Captur with Renault engines, and these engines are not in the catalogue.

How much more power does the ASX 1.8 DI-D get?
With the GAN GT the 150 hp version goes from 150 hp and 300 Nm to 193 hp and 385 Nm. On the diesels the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power, and on the petrol 1.6 and 2.0 the GAN GA+ at up to 12%. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

Look for the 2.2 DI-D 4WD with 150 hp and 360 Nm: that is the four-wheel-drive automatic built from October 2013.
Which module does ASX chiptuning use for the petrol 1.6 and 2.0?
The 1.6 with 117 hp and the 2.0 with 150 hp both work with the GAN GA+.
What should I check on the ASX 1.8 DI-D?
On the ASX 1.8 DI-D built before November 2012, the turbocharger is a known weak point. A tuning module does not replace a worn part: have the turbocharger checked before fitting.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
