What makes the Nissan Skyline special
Nissan Skyline tuning: which Skyline the catalogue means
The Skyline name usually brings to mind the GT-R of the R32 to R34 generations, which the catalogue does not list. The catalogue covers a different car: the V35 and V36 saloons with V6 engines, and a tuning box for the Skyline here means those engines. Nissan sold the Skyline officially in Germany only as the Datsun 240K-GT from 1973 to 1978 and as the Datsun Skyline from 1978 to 1981. The R31 to R34 generations, including the GT-R, were not sold officially in Europe and arrive there as grey imports from Japan.
V35, V36 and V37 by name
The V35, built from 2001, was the Japanese Skyline and sold in the USA as the Infiniti G35. In Europe the V36 was sold as the Infiniti G37 with a single 3.7 V6 of 320 hp, and Germany followed in 2010. A European G37 is therefore listed under Infiniti, not under the Skyline. The V37 is the Infiniti Q50 from 2014, and again Nissan offered no Skyline in Europe.
The catalogue covers the Japanese versions. They are the 2.5 VQ25DD with 215 hp, the 250GT with the VQ25HR and 225 hp, the 3.0 VQ30DD with 260 hp and the 3.5 VQ35DE with 280 hp; the catalogue also lists a 3.0 with 240 hp and 312 Nm. Which Skyline engine does a Japanese import have, V35 or V36?
The 2.5 VQ25DD, the 3.0 VQ30DD and the 3.5 VQ35DE belong to the V35, and the 250GT with the VQ25HR to the V36.
Why is the GT-R with the RB26DETT not on this page?
The RB26DETT of the GT-R is not in the catalogue. Those GT-R generations never had official sales in Europe and come in as grey imports.
How much more power does the Skyline 3.5 get?
In the catalogue the 3.5 has 280 hp and 363 Nm, and with the GAN GA+ it reaches 302 hp and 392 Nm. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Are the Infiniti G37 and Q50 the same cars as the Skyline?
They are the European names of the V36 and the V37.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
