About the generation

What makes the Opel Corsa D special

Corsa D tuning: the 1.2 and the 1.4 come first

Opel Corsa D tuning mostly comes down to two engines, the 1.2 and the 1.4. Both petrol engines were the core of the range when sales began in October 2006. Both are naturally aspirated, so the tuning box for either of them is the GAN GA+. For Corsa D 1.2 chip tuning, the catalogue lists the 80 hp version with 110 Nm.

From the update of January 2010 the 1.2 was also offered with 85 hp; the GAN GA+ takes it to 95 hp. For Corsa D 1.4 chip tuning, it comes down to the output: 90 hp until October 2009, 100 hp from November 2009 and 87 hp from February 2010. In Britain the same car is sold as the Vauxhall Corsa.

Diesels, turbo petrols and the OPC

The 1.3 CDTI with 75, 90 and 95 hp and the 1.7 CDTI with 125 and 131 hp work with the GAN GT. So does the 1.4 Turbo ecoFLEX with 120 hp, built from June 2012. The 1.6 Turbo cars use the GAN GT too: the GSi with 150 hp, the OPC with 192 hp and the Nürburgring Edition with 211 hp.

How much does Opel Corsa D chiptuning add to the 1.2 with 80 hp?

The 1.2, rated at 80 hp and 110 Nm, gets to 90 hp and 123 Nm with the GAN GA+. The three 1.4 outputs gain 10 to 12 hp. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

Is the timing chain a weak point of the Corsa D petrol engines?

On the 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines the chain can stretch on cars used mainly for short trips; the sign is a rattle at idle and on a cold start. On the 1.4 this is rarer.

How much does the GAN GT add to the Corsa D 1.3 CDTI?

It is a turbodiesel, so the GAN GT applies, with up to 30% more power. The catalogue gain is 27 hp and 60 Nm for the 90 hp version and 22 hp and 54 Nm for the 75 hp version.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
