Each engine has its own tuning module: GAN GT / GTL or GAN GA / GA+. Prices are per tuning module and include the current discount.

The badge alone is not enough: in this generation, the same engine designation came in different power outputs, each with its own calibration. Check the power output in your registration document and find the matching row.

Pontiac G6 tuning: what changes

More power and torque without an ECU remap or replacing any parts. The tuning module only adjusts the engine sensor signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

What makes the Pontiac G6 special

Pontiac G6 tuning: an American car on a European platform

The Pontiac G6 was built for North America at Lake Orion, Michigan, and it was never sold in Europe. It shares the Epsilon platform with the Opel Vectra and the Saab 9-3: European relatives, but the G6 itself never came over. Tuning a G6 therefore means working with the American engines, and the tuning box is matched to whichever one your car has.

The saloon ran from 2005 to 2010, the coupé and the folding-hard-top convertible from 2006 to 2009, all with front-wheel drive. Trim names such as GTP and GXP do not decide the module; the engine does.

G6 engines: which one is yours

The 2.4 DOHC four-cylinder came in 2006; the catalogue lists it at 171 hp and 220 Nm. It had a four-speed automatic and from 2009 a six-speed. The pushrod 3.5 V6 made around 200 hp in 2005 and 2006; the catalogue gives 205 hp and 300 Nm. From 2007 the 3.5 gained variable valve timing and a little more output. The 3.9 V6 was fitted from 2006 to 2008; the 243 hp figure is for the manual version, and the automatic makes less.

The six-speed manual was offered with this engine alone. The 3.6 DOHC V6 came in the GTP in 2007 and in the GXP afterwards; in the catalogue it has 255 hp and 340 Nm, with a six-speed automatic. The 3.5 and the 3.9 are older GM pushrod engines, while the 3.6 is a DOHC engine with variable valve timing. Every G6 engine works with the GAN GA+.

Questions

Pontiac G6 chip tuning: questions

What does chip tuning add to the G6 3.6 V6?

On the 255 hp engine the module gives 275 hp and 367 Nm. The GAN GA+ line is rated at up to 12% more power; these are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

Is the 2.4 four-cylinder covered?

Yes: the 2.4 works with the GAN GA+, in the version with 171 hp and 220 Nm.

Does a tuning box replace the G6 ECU?

The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Fitting uses the existing connectors, and the module comes off in about a minute.

Can I use a module listed for the Opel Vectra on a G6?

No: the platform is shared, but the module is chosen from the G6 engine list above.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
