What makes the Subaru XV special
Subaru XV tuning: does a naturally aspirated boxer respond?
The Subaru XV with the 1.6i or the 2.0i has no turbo, so the first question about a tuning box is whether it is worth fitting at all. It is a fair question: the petrol engines of the European XV were naturally aspirated boxers in both generations. There was never a turbocharged petrol XV, so a turbo kit for the XV would have no factory version to build on. The place to start is finding your exact engine in the catalogue.
XV 1.6i or 2.0i, first or second generation
The first generation, the GP, reached Germany in March 2012 and was built until January 2018. A facelift followed in January 2016. The XV is built on the Impreza, and every first-generation engine is a four-cylinder boxer with a start-stop system. The 1.6i makes 114 hp and 150 Nm, the 2.0i 150 hp and 196 Nm, and both come with Symmetrical all-wheel drive. The second generation ran from January 2018 to October 2023 and has no diesel.
It was first shown in Geneva in 2017. Its 2.0i has 156 hp and direct injection, and every version uses the Lineartronic CVT with all-wheel drive. The catalogue also lists the 2.0i at 148 hp and at 155 hp, both with 196 Nm. After 2023 the third generation has been sold in Europe as the Crosstrek, and only with the e-Boxer hybrid. The first generation also had the 2.0D diesel with 147 hp and 350 Nm, and the second the 2.0 e-Boxer hybrid, whose petrol engine makes 150 hp and 194 Nm.

Subaru XV 2.0i 150 or 156 hp: which one do I have?
It depends on the generation: the first has 150 hp, and the second, built from 2018, has 156 hp, which the catalogue lists as 155 hp. With the GAN GA+ the 150 hp engine goes from 150 hp and 196 Nm to 168 hp and 220 Nm. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power for naturally aspirated engines. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Does a tuning box add boost to the XV?
There is no turbocharged petrol XV, so there is no factory boost to raise. The 1.6i with 114 hp and every 2.0i work with the GAN GA+.
Is the XV 2.0D or the e-Boxer covered?
No, the 2.0D diesel and the 2.0 e-Boxer hybrid are not in the catalogue.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
