What makes the Volkswagen Up special
VW up tuning: one three-cylinder engine for three cars
The VW up! shares its body and engine with the SEAT Mii and the Škoda Citigo. Every petrol up engine sold in Europe is a three-cylinder 1.0-litre unit of the EA211 family. For VW up 1.0 tuning with a tuning box the catalogue offers the 1.0 MPI with 60 or 75 hp. The 1.0 MPI with 65 hp followed in August 2020. The 1.0 TSI with 90 hp ran from 2016 to 2019, and the bi-fuel EcoFuel with 68 hp runs on CNG and petrol. The 60 hp engine ran from October 2011 to August 2020, and the 75 hp engine from October 2011 to July 2019. The EcoFuel with 68 hp ran from November 2012 to October 2023.
The trims are take up, move up, high up and, since 2013 as a five-door only, cross up. The gearboxes are a five-speed manual and, from June 2012, the automated ASG, which the take up does without. Production started in Bratislava in December 2011, and the facelift of 2016 brought LED daytime running lights and the turbocharged engine. The petrol up was available in Europe until 2023. The up GTI with 115 hp was shown at the Wörthersee in May 2017 and sold from January 2018 to October 2023.

In the catalogue the 1.0 MPI with 60 and 75 hp and the EcoFuel with 68 hp all work with the GAN GA+. The 1.0 TSI with 90 hp and the electric e-up are not in the catalogue.

How much more power does VW up chiptuning give the 1.0 MPI with 75 hp?
The 1.0 MPI with 75 hp and 95 Nm goes to 84 hp and 106 Nm with the GAN GA+. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power; these are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
VW up remap or tuning box: what to expect on a 1.0 MPI?
Here too the tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU, and the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
VW up GTI remap or tuning box: is the GTI covered?
The 1.0 TSI GTI with 115 hp and 200 Nm is not listed separately for the VW up: you will find the same engine as the 1.0 TSI of the VW Golf VII.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
