What makes the Audi TT 8N special
Audi TT 8N tuning: the 225 hp quattro against the 180
About 276,500 Audi TT Typ 8N (Mk1) were built from 1998 to 2006, and TT 8N tuning with a tuning box covers the three engines listed in the catalogue. The 1.8 T with 180 hp and a K03 turbocharger goes to 202 hp, and the 1.8 T quattro with 225 hp and a K04 turbocharger goes to 252 hp. Both are turbocharged 1.8 T 20V engines with multipoint injection, not TFSI.
The 3.2 VR6 with 250 hp arrived in 2003, and with the GAN GA+ it reaches 280 hp. All three engines work with the GAN GA+, which is rated at up to 12% more power.
GAN GA+ torque figures for the 8N
With the GAN GA+, torque of the 180 hp 1.8 T rises from 235 Nm to 263 Nm. The 225 hp quattro goes from 280 Nm to 314 Nm. The 3.2 VR6 goes from 320 Nm to 358 Nm, and it came with quattro only, with a six-speed manual gearbox or the DSG.

Audi TT Mk1 with 150, 163, 190 or 240 hp: is my engine covered?
The 1.8 T with 150 hp is not listed separately for the TT 8N: you will find the same engine as the 1.8 TFSI 150 hp of the Audi A3 8L. For the TT 8N, the 1.8 T with 163 hp likewise appears under another model, as the 1.8T 163 hp of the Audi A4 B7. The 1.8 T with 190 hp and the 1.8 T of the quattro Sport with 240 hp are not in the catalogue.
Audi TT 8N 180 chiptuning: which GAN module fits the 1.8 T?
The 180 hp 1.8 T works with the GAN GA+, whether it has front-wheel drive or quattro. From September 2005 the 190 hp engine replaced the 180 hp version.
Audi TT Mk1 chip tuning: tuning box or ECU remap?
A remap is stored in the ECU, whereas the GAN tuning box adjusts the sensor signals, and once you remove it no traces remain. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time. These are the stated gains for these engine types, not dyno readings of your car.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
