About the generation

What makes the Cupra Formentor special

Cupra Formentor tuning: engines shared with Golf and Audi

The engine, not the badge, decides which tuning box a Cupra Formentor needs. The 2.0 TSI VZ with 310 hp and 400 Nm is an EA888 evo4 engine, code DNFB, also used in the Audi S3 8Y. The 2.0 TSI also comes with 245 hp and 370 Nm, and the VZ5 has the 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder with 390 hp.

The 2.0 TDI has 150 hp, and the e-Hybrid adds an electric motor to a 1.4 TSI for 204 or 245 hp in total. The 2.0 TSI, the VZ5, the 2.0 TDI and the e-Hybrid all work with the GAN GT; for the e-Hybrid the figures refer to its 1.4 TSI engine, 150 hp and 250 Nm.

Cupra Formentor chiptuning on the 2.0 TSI 245: what does the GAN GT add?

With the GAN GT, a 245 hp Formentor reaches 287 hp and 433 Nm, up from 370 Nm. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car. The GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power on turbo engines.

Is there a module for the Formentor 1.5 TSI, 2.0 TSI 190 or 204 hp e-Hybrid?

The 204 hp e-Hybrid is covered on this page by the 1.4 Hybrid 245, because both versions use this engine. The 1.5 TSI 150 is not listed separately for the Formentor: you will find the same engine as the 1.5 TSI of the VW T-Roc. The 2.0 TSI 190 likewise appears under another model, as the 2.0 TSI of the Cupra Leon.

Cupra Formentor remap or a tuning box: what stays untouched?

A remap rewrites the calibration, whereas the GAN module plugs into the existing connectors and comes off in about a minute.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
