Cupra Chip Tuning
Up to 30% more power for your Cupra
The Cupra catalogue lists 8 engines (models: 3, generations: 3). All Cupra engines in the catalogue are turbocharged, so they take the GAN GT (up to 30% more power) and GAN GTL (up to 25%) tuning modules. Each engine’s figures are on its own page.
Cupra chip tuning without an ECU remap
The tuning module sits between the sensors and the engine control unit (ECU) and adjusts their signals. Your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.

Cupra chip tuning: questions
How much more power does a Formentor VZ 310 get from the GAN GT?
With the GAN GT, the 310 hp VZ 4Drive goes from 310 hp and 400 Nm to 363 hp and 468 Nm. The catalogue also covers the 245 hp 2.0 TSI, so go by the stock figure of your car. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Is there a module for the Formentor VZ5 with the five-cylinder engine?
The VZ5 uses the Audi RS 3's 2.5 TSI, an EA855 engine with 390 hp, and Cupra built it as a limited run of 7,000 cars. The catalogue does cover it: the 390 hp VZ5 works with the GAN GT.
Does the Cupra Ateca differ before and after November 2020?
The Ateca has a single engine, the 2.0 TSI with 300 hp, so before and after that date it is the same car. The catalogue splits the Ateca at November 2020, although the facelift was shown in June 2020; the figures are identical on both sides of that date.
Tuning box or ECU remap for a Cupra 2.0 TSI?
Cupra chiptuning with a tuning box differs from an ECU remap in one way: a remap rewrites the factory software, while a tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. The GAN module leaves the factory software, the checksums and the flash counter untouched, and the engine's factory protections stay active. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Does the GAN module affect my Cupra warranty?
No. The module does not change the ECU software and can be removed at any time, so your manufacturer’s warranty is preserved. We also give an engine warranty: 2 years with the GAN GT, 1 year with the GAN GTL.
Tuning box or ECU remap: which should I choose?
An ECU remap permanently changes the maps in the ECU and leaves a trace in the flash counter. The GAN tuning module adjusts the sensor signals instead: the ECU stays in factory condition, and you can return the car to stock in about a minute.
Cupra chip tuning: what to know about the engines
Cupra tuning: every model is already the hot version
A date sets the scene for Cupra tuning with a tuning box: since January 2018 Cupra has been a brand in its own right; before that it was SEAT's sporty line. The Cupra Ateca of 2018 came first, the Leon followed in February 2020, and the Formentor of 2020 was the first Cupra without a SEAT twin. The name comes from Cup Racing.
For Cupra chip tuning the catalogue covers three models: the Formentor, the Ateca and the Leon. The electric Born (2021) and Tavascan (2023) are not in the catalogue. The letters VZ stand for veloz and mark the top versions.
Formentor: from 245 to 390 hp
The Formentor is built at Martorell on the MQB evo platform, shared with the Leon IV and the Golf VIII. The Formentor's 2.0 TSI came with 245 hp in the VZ and 310 hp in the VZ 4Drive. At the top sits the VZ5, with the five-cylinder 2.5 TSI from the Audi RS 3, 390 hp and a run limited to 7,000 cars. A 2.0 TDI with 150 hp rounds off the Formentor engines in the catalogue. Cupra Formentor tuning has a market behind it: Germany registered 17,606 cars in 2021, 32,638 in 2022 (the peak year), 30,078 in 2023 and 29,406 in 2024.
The Formentor was also sold with a 1.5 TSI of 150 hp, a 2.0 TSI 4Drive of 190 hp and a 1.4 e-Hybrid. The 1.5 TSI with 150 hp does not appear separately in the Formentor catalogue: you will find the same engine under the VW T-Roc 1.5 TSI. The 2.0 TSI 4Drive with 190 hp is likewise missing from the Formentor catalogue, and the same engine appears under the Cupra Leon 2.0 TSI. The 1.4 e-Hybrid does appear on the Cupra Formentor page. The 2.0 TSI VZ 4Drive with 333 hp, added with the facelift of July 2024, is not in the catalogue.

Ateca and Leon
The Cupra Ateca has one engine, the 2.0 TSI with 300 hp, four-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG. The Terramar joined the Cupra range in 2024. The 1.5 TSI and the 2.0 TDI belong to the ordinary SEAT Ateca, not to the Cupra. The Leon comes as a hatchback and as a Sportstourer estate.
The Cupra Leon is the SEAT Leon IV (KL) sold under the Cupra badge, while the earlier SEAT Leon Cupra (5F) ran from 2014 to 2020. For the Cupra Leon the catalogue has a single engine, the 2.0 TSI with 190 hp, sold in Germany from October 2022 to December 2023. The turbo petrol engines and the 2.0 TDI in the catalogue work with the GAN GT, rated at up to 30% more power.
Which Cupra models are in the catalogue
The catalogue lists 3 models from Cupra. The most engines are listed for the Formentor (5), Ateca (2) and Leon (1). The biggest gain among the models is on the Formentor: up to +66 hp.
How to find your Cupra engine
Choose your model in the list above, then the generation by model year and chassis code, and the engine by the power output in your registration document. The engine page shows the exact gain and the tuning module price.
