What makes the Kia Rio III special
Kia Rio 3 tuning: the diesels first
The diesel range of the Rio 3 (UB) starts with a three-cylinder 1.1 CRDi of 1,120 cc, the smallest engine of the European range. For Kia Rio 3 tuning it works with the GAN GT: the 1.1 CRDi, with 75 hp and 170 Nm, gains 22 hp and 46 Nm. The 1.4 CRDi with 90 hp and 220 Nm also uses the GAN GT and gains 27 hp and 66 Nm. From January 2015 both diesels meet a stricter emissions standard and come with ISG start-stop versions.
The petrol engines
The 1.2 CVVT is a naturally aspirated engine with 85 hp, or 84 hp from 2015; the catalogue lists it at 87 hp, and with the GAN GA+ it gains 10 hp and 15 Nm. For Kia Rio 2011 tuning the 1.4 CVVT with 109 hp, built from June 2011, likewise uses the GAN GA+ and gains 13 hp and 16 Nm.

Is a tuning box worth it on the three-cylinder Rio 3 1.1 CRDi?
For Rio 1.1 CRDi tuning the GAN GT takes the engine from 75 hp and 170 Nm to 97 hp and 216 Nm. With 75 hp the 1.1 CRDi is the least powerful engine of the Rio 3 range. A turbodiesel is the kind of engine the GAN GT is rated for, with up to 30% more power; these are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Which GAN module fits the Rio 3 1.4 CVVT?
The 1.4 CVVT works with the GAN GA+; the catalogue lists it at 107 hp and 135 Nm, while European cars are rated at 109 hp and 137 Nm. The GAN GA+ is rated at up to 12% more power for naturally aspirated engines.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
