About the generation

What makes the Mitsubishi Outlander III special

Mitsubishi Outlander 3 tuning: petrol and diesel with the same 150 hp

The Outlander 3 (GF) comes in two versions with 150 hp: the 2.0 MIVEC petrol (4J11) and the 2.2 Di-D Clear Tec diesel (4N14). The petrol engine makes 195 Nm, while the diesel makes 380 Nm with the manual gearbox and 360 Nm with the automatic. So each version gets a different module and a different gain from a tuning box. For chip tuning, the diesel works with the GAN GT: 150 hp and 360 Nm become 194 hp and 464 Nm, 44 hp more.

The petrol 2.0 uses the GAN GA+ and goes from 150 hp to 168 hp. The third branch is the Outlander PHEV, sold in Europe from October 2013 until March 2022. From September 2018 its petrol engine was a 2.4 with 135 hp and 211 Nm; before that, a 2.0 with 121 hp. The Outlander 3 reached Europe in autumn 2012; the diesel was dropped in 2018 and the petrol 2.0 in October 2021.

The diesel gets more: the GAN GT can add up to 30% more power, the GAN GA+ up to 12%.

Outlander PHEV tuning: what does the GAN GA+ do with the 2.4 petrol engine?

The PHEV's 2.4 petrol engine, 135 hp and 211 Nm, reaches 151 hp and 236 Nm with the GAN GA+. These figures say nothing about the two electric motors or the combined 224 hp. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

Outlander 2.2 Di-D with the automatic or the manual: does the module differ?

The catalogue has one 2.2 Di-D Clear Tec version, 150 hp and 360 Nm, which matches the automatic. The manual version, with 380 Nm as standard, is not in the catalogue. The module does not reprogram the gearbox.

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
