What makes the Volkswagen Transporter T5 special
VW Transporter T5 tuning for a van that works
A T5 can be a Transporter, a Caravelle, a Multivan or a California camper, and VW Transporter T5 tuning with a tuning box covers all of them. The T5 (Typ 7H and 7E) reached the market in March 2003, got a facelift in autumn 2009 with the body code 7E and was replaced by the T6 in July 2015. After the facelift the diesel is the common rail 2.0 TDI (EA189) with 84, 102, 114 or 140 hp, topped by the 2.0 BiTDI with two turbochargers and 400 Nm. The 2.0 TDI with 84, 102 and 114 hp and the BiTDI work with the GAN GT.
The 140 hp version is in the catalogue on this page as well. The petrol 2.0 TSI with 150 hp (from June 2012) and 204 hp (from June 2011) uses the GAN GT too, and it shows the biggest gain in hp of the generation. The naturally aspirated 2.0 with 115 hp and the 3.2 VR6 with 235 hp work with the GAN GA+.
Before the facelift
Before October 2009 the T5 had the 1.9 TDI PD with 84 to 105 hp and the 2.5 TDI R5 with 131 and 174 hp, and in the catalogue they use the GAN GA+. In January 2012 VW recalled about 300 thousand 2.0 TDI vehicles built from 2009 to 2012, the T5 among them, for cracked high-pressure fuel lines.

What does T5 2.0 TDI tuning give on the 102 and 114 hp engines?
Two engines, two results: 102 hp and 250 Nm become 133 hp and 325 Nm, and 114 hp and 250 Nm become 148 hp and 335 Nm. The BiTDI goes from 179 hp and 400 Nm to 208 hp and 508 Nm. The GAN GT line is rated at up to 30% more power; these are the stated gains for these engine types, not a dyno reading of your car.
Does the 2012 fuel-line recall change anything for a tuned T5?
The recall covered 2.0 TDI vehicles built from 2009 to 2012; the repair was a new fuel line with a damper. A tuning box does not repair fuel lines, and the GAN module makes no promises about engine parts.
What does the module give the 1.9 TDI, 2.5 TDI and 3.2 VR6?
The 1.9 TDI with 84, 86, 102 and 105 hp, the 2.5 TDI with 131 and 174 hp, the 2.0 with 115 hp and the 3.2 VR6 with 235 hp all work with the GAN GA+, rated at up to 12% more power. The 2.5 TDI with 174 hp and 400 Nm goes to 195 hp and 448 Nm, and the 3.2 VR6 with 235 hp to 263 hp.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
