What makes the BMW X5 E70 special
BMW X5 E70 tuning: two diesels that look alike
Two diesels in the BMW X5 E70 look alike from the outside and differ underneath. The xDrive40d has 306 hp and 600 Nm from two turbochargers, and the M50d has 381 hp and 740 Nm from three. The M50d arrived in July 2012, after the facelift of June 2010 that brought the N57 diesels and the xDrive35i and xDrive50i petrol engines. Before the facelift the diesels were the M57 with 235 hp and 286 hp.
A tuning box for the E70 is matched to the engine and its number of turbochargers, because the code E70 covers every version from 2006 to 2013. The xDrive30d with 245 hp and 540 Nm has a single turbocharger. The 3.0si with 272 hp and the 4.8i with 355 hp are naturally aspirated petrol engines, and both work with the GAN GA+. The X5 M has the S63 V8 with two turbochargers and 555 hp, built from July 2009.

How much more power does the BMW X5 M E70 get from the GAN GT?
With the module it makes 649 hp and 796 Nm, against 555 hp and 680 Nm without it. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
BMW X5 E70: tuning box or ECU remapping, and what about the drivetrain?
An ECU remap replaces the factory software in the engine control unit; a tuning box leaves that software alone. The module does not reprogram the gearbox. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
