What makes the BMW X5 G05 special
BMW X5 G05 tuning: diesels and petrol cars
The BMW X5 G05, built since November 2018, splits into diesels and petrol cars, and each half has its own engines in the catalogue. The diesels use the B57 six-cylinder: the xDrive30d has 265 hp and 620 Nm, and the M50d has four turbochargers and 400 hp. From July 2020 the xDrive30d has 286 hp with a mild hybrid. The petrol cars use the B58 in the xDrive40i and the twin-turbo V8 N63 in the M50i with 530 hp.
The xDrive40i made 340 hp until September 2020 and 333 hp from December 2020, with 450 Nm in both. The facelift of April 2023 brought a 381 hp xDrive40i, the M60i in place of the M50i and the xDrive50e in place of the xDrive45e. For a tuning box on the G05, start from the engine and the build date: the body code stays the same through all of these versions.

In the catalogue the M50i with 530 hp and 750 Nm reaches 620 hp and 878 Nm with the GAN GT. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.

BMW X5 G05 xDrive40i: 340 hp or 333 hp?
The technical data list 340 hp for November 2018 to September 2020 and 333 hp from December 2020, at the same 450 Nm. According to BimmerToday the engine did not change; the figure was adapted to the 48-volt on-board network, as on the 540i. The xDrive40i in the catalogue is the 340 hp version. The 333 hp xDrive40i is not listed separately for the X5; the same engine is in the catalogue as the 540i of the BMW 5 Series G30.

An ECU remap replaces the factory software in the engine control unit. The GAN module sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals, so the factory software stays untouched. Which GAN module fits the BMW X5 xDrive30d with 286 hp or the xDrive40d?
The 286 hp xDrive30d and the xDrive40d are not listed separately for the X5: you will find the same engines as the 30d and the 40d of the BMW X6 G06. The xDrive40d was built from April 2020 to February 2023 with 340 hp and 700 Nm.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
