What makes the Ford Focus II special
Ford Focus Mk2 tuning: diesel, petrol and the ST
Ford Focus Mk2 tuning with a tuning box means more engine power, not body kits or styling parts. The Mk2 arrived in 2004, and the Mk2.5 facelift with the Kinetic Design followed in 2008. The diesels, the 1.6 TDCi with 90 and 109 hp, the 1.8 TDCi with 116 hp and the 2.0 TDCi with 110 and 136 hp, all work with the GAN GT.
The 1.4 Duratec with 80 hp, the 1.6 with 100 and 115 hp, the 1.8 with 125 hp and the 2.0 with 145 hp are naturally aspirated, so they use the GAN GA+. At the top sit the turbo five-cylinder engines: the ST with 226 hp, the RS with 305 hp from January 2009 and the RS500 with 350 hp, limited to 500 cars in May 2010. The Ghia, the Zetec and the Titanium are trim levels; it is the engine that decides the module.

For the 1.6 TDCi with 109 hp the catalogue shows 142 hp with the GAN GT, up from 109 hp. The 1.6 TDCi with 90 hp is listed separately. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Focus ST Mk2: Mountune kit or tuning box?
In 2008 Ford and Mountune offered a dealer kit with a larger intercooler, an air filter and a recalibration, which gave 260 hp at 5,500 rpm and 400 Nm at 2,500 rpm instead of 226 hp and 320 Nm. A tuning box adjusts sensor signals and fits no such parts, and in the catalogue both the ST and the RS work with the GAN GT.
Do the Duratec petrol engines of the Focus Mk2 get a module?
Yes. The 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 Duratec are covered by the GAN GA+, which adds up to 12% more power.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
