About the generation

What makes the Volkswagen Golf VI special

Golf 6 tuning and the TSI timing chain

On the Golf 6, the ADAC names the timing chain of the 1.2 TSI built from 2009 to 2012 and of the 1.4 TSI built from 2008 to 2012, both EA111 engines, as a weak point. The 1.2 TSI with 86 and 105 hp and the 1.4 TSI with 160 hp work with the GAN GT.

GTI, R and the diesels

The GTI makes 211 hp (code CCZB), the Edition 35 of May 2011 to November 2012 has 235 hp, and the Golf R has 270 hp and 350 Nm with 4Motion. The R uses the EA113 engine, and the GTI, the Edition 35 and the R all use the GAN GT. The 1.6 TDI with 90 and 105 hp is a common rail diesel with a VTG turbine, and it too is matched to the GAN GT. The GTD with 170 hp and 350 Nm uses the EA189, the diesel family affected by the recall that the KBA ordered in October 2015.

Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
