What makes the Volkswagen Passat B7 special
Passat B7 tuning and the diesel software update
Before any Passat B7 2.0 TDI tuning with a tuning box, one point needs settling. With the engine codes CFFB or CFGB, it is whether the diesel scandal affected the car. It did: the EA189 diesels were affected, and on 15 October 2015 the KBA ordered a mandatory recall of 2.4 million cars in Germany.
Recall programme 23R7 changes the ECU software. The B7 itself is Typ 362 as a saloon and Typ 365 as a Variant or Alltrack; it was built from August 2010 to October 2014 and is also known as the Passat 7.
Diesels: 140, 170 or 177 hp
The 2.0 TDI came with 140 and 170 hp, and from the autumn of 2012 with 177 hp. The 140, 170 and 177 hp versions all work with the GAN GT, as does the 1.6 TDI with 105 hp. VW Passat Alltrack tuning uses the same figures: the catalogue does not separate the Alltrack, so you pick by engine and power.
Petrol engines and the 3.6
The 1.4 TSI with 122 and 160 hp belongs to the EA111 family, whose timing chain can stretch on engines built up to 2012. The 2.0 TSI with 211 hp is an EA888 Gen2. Both the 1.4 TSI with 160 hp and the 1.8 TSI with 160 hp work with the GAN GT; the 3.6 with 299 hp uses the GAN GA+.

How much more power does chiptuning give a Passat B7 2.0 TDI with 170 hp?
In its 170 hp, 350 Nm form, the 2.0 TDI is rated at 204 hp and 411 Nm with the GAN GT. The GAN GT line is rated at up to 30% more power; these are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
How much power does the GAN GT add to the Passat B7 1.4 TSI with 160 hp?
The 1.4 TSI Twincharger, 160 hp and 240 Nm as standard, reaches 206 hp and 312 Nm with the GAN GT.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
