Fiat Ducato chip tuning: engines and generations
Fiat Ducato tuning: a motorhome base with many Multijets
Fiat Ducato tuning with a tuning box is mostly a motorhome matter: the Ducato is the base for between two thirds and about 70% of the motorhomes in Europe. The Ducato in the catalogue is not one generation but a mix of the Typ 230, the Typ 244 and the Typ 250. The number in the name is not the output: the 150 Multijet makes 148 hp, and the 160 Multijet makes 157 to 159 hp.
From 2010 to 2014 the Typ 250 had two diesels with the same 130 and 150 hp ratings. One was the 2.3 Multijet from Sofim and Iveco, the other the 2.2 HDi from Ford and PSA. The two diesels differ in displacement, 2,287 against 2,198 cc, and in engine code, so check both.
The newer engines
The Typ 250 started in June 2006 and was facelifted in 2011, in May 2014, in autumn 2016, in 2020 and in 2021. The 2011 facelift added the 115 Multijet, a new 2.0 from Fiat with 115 hp. The 2.3 Multijet2 of the 2019 and 2020 facelift came in four outputs, 120, 140, 160 and 180 hp, with SCR and AdBlue. Since 2021 the 2.2 Multijet3 with 140 and 160 hp has taken its place; it is a different engine, so nothing carries over from the 2.3.
The facelift of autumn 2023 brought the Multijet4 with 120, 140 and 180 hp. The electric e-Ducato is a separate line. The newer engines are also known as Multijet3 or Multijet4, or as 2.2 Multijet or 140 Multijet3, and Ducato Multijet tuning goes by these names.

Which Multijet engine does your Ducato have, the 2.3 or the 2.2?
Look at the displacement and the engine code: the 2.3 has 2,287 cc and comes from Sofim and Iveco, while the 2.2 HDi has 2,198 cc and comes from Ford and PSA. Both were sold with the same 130 and 150 hp ratings, but they are different engines and are covered separately.
How much more power does the 150 Multijet get from the GAN GT?
In Fiat Ducato chiptuning the 150 Multijet starts at 148 hp and 350 Nm, and the catalogue shows 174 hp and 445 Nm with the GAN GT. The gain is counted from the real figure, not from the 150 in the name. These are the stated gains for this engine type, not a dyno reading of your car.
Fiat Ducato software update: tuning box or ECU remap?
A Ducato software update usually means a change to the factory software. Unlike an ECU remap, which rewrites that software, a tuning box sits between the engine sensors and the ECU and adjusts their signals. With the GAN module the factory software, checksums and flash counter stay untouched, and the engine's factory protections remain active. Your manufacturer's warranty is preserved: the ECU software is never changed, and the module can be removed at any time.
Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
