Polo tuning before and after March 2009
March 2009 is the dividing line for Polo tuning with a tuning box: the Polo V (6R) brought the small turbo engines, the 1.2 TSI with 105 hp at launch, the GTI in 2010 and the 1.2 TSI with 90 hp from January 2011. The Polo V gives two answers on one body: the 1.4 with 85 hp works with the GAN GA+, and the 1.2 TSI with 90 hp with the GAN GT. Before 2009 every Polo III and Polo IV engine in the catalogue is matched to the GAN GA+, even the pump-injector TDI diesels. The Polo III (6N and 6N2) ran from 1994 to 2001 with petrol engines from 1.0 to 1.8 litres and, from 1999, a 1.4 TDI PD with 75 hp.
The Polo IV (9N and 9N3) ran from November 2001 to May 2009, with a facelift in March 2005. Its petrol engines include the 1.2 with 54, 64 and 70 hp, the 1.4 with 75 to 101 hp and the 1.6 with 105 hp; its diesels are the 1.4 TDI PD with 69, 75 and 80 hp and the 1.9 TDI with 101 and 131 hp. The Polo IV GTI has a 1.8T with 150 hp. The 1.8T is not in the Polo catalogue under its own name: the same engine appears as the 1.8 TSI FR of the SEAT Ibiza 6L.
Polo V and Polo VI
The Polo V (2009–2017) has the 1.0 TSI with 95 and 110 hp, the 1.2 TSI with 90, 105 and 110 hp and the 1.4 TSI BlueGT with 140 and 150 hp. The GTI began as a 1.4 TSI Twincharger with 179 hp and became a 1.8 TSI with 192 hp from 2014. The diesels, the 1.2 TDI, the 1.6 TDI and from 2014 the 1.4 TDI of the EA288 family, work with the GAN GT.
The small 1.0 MPI and 1.2 MPI petrol engines with 60 to 75 hp stay with the GAN GA+. The Polo VI (AW) was presented in June 2017 with the 1.0 MPI with 65 and 75 hp and the 1.0 TSI with 95 hp, and the 1.0 MPI with 80 hp followed from July 2020. In the catalogue the Polo VI GTI with 200 hp and the 1.6 TDI with 80 and 95 hp are matched to the GAN GT.

What does Polo chiptuning give on the Polo V 1.2 TSI 90 and 105?
The 90 hp engine goes from 90 hp and 160 Nm to 108 hp and 208 Nm, and the 105 hp engine from 105 hp and 175 Nm to 125 hp and 228 Nm. These are the stated gains for these engine types, not a dyno reading of your car; the GAN GT is rated at up to 30% more power.
Is the Polo 1.4 TDI or 1.6 TDI a pump-injector or a common rail engine?
The Polo IV 1.4 TDI and 1.9 TDI are pump-injector (PD) engines for the GAN GA+, while the Polo V 1.6 TDI and the later 1.4 TDI are common rail engines for the GAN GT.
What does the GAN GA+ give a Polo 1.0, 1.2 or 1.4 MPI?

Is a tuning module the same as a Stage 1 tune?
Not quite. Stage 1 usually means an ECU remap without replacing any parts. The tuning module also works without replacing parts, but it does not change the ECU software: it adjusts the sensor signals, comes off in about a minute, and the OFF button in the app restores the factory settings.
